Readability scores estimate how easy your writing is to understand. The Flesch Reading Ease formula returns a number from 0 to 100 — higher means easier — based on average sentence length and the average number of syllables per word. The companion Flesch–Kincaid Grade Level translates that into a U.S. school grade, so a score of 8 means a typical eighth-grader could follow your text.

Clear, scannable copy tends to keep readers on the page longer and converts better, which is why readability matters for SEO as well as plain good writing. Paste a draft to see where it lands, then shorten long sentences and swap in simpler words to nudge the score toward your target audience. All scoring runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good Flesch Reading Ease score?

For general web content, aim for 60–70 (plain English, roughly 8th–9th grade). Scores above 70 read very easily; below 50 starts to feel difficult or academic.

How are syllables counted?

Syllables are approximated by counting vowel groups in each word, dropping a silent trailing 'e', with a minimum of one per word. It's an estimate, so very unusual words may be slightly off.

What's the difference between Reading Ease and Grade Level?

Both use the same inputs. Reading Ease gives a 0–100 score where higher is easier, while Grade Level maps the difficulty to a U.S. school grade.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The analysis happens entirely in your browser and your text is never sent anywhere.
